The AYAD program is an initiative of the Australian Government’s International Aid Program. The program places skilled young Australian volunteers, aged 18-30 years, on assignments, ranging from 3 to 12 months, in developing countries throughout the Asian-Pacific region.
The Youth Ambassadors work with both local non-government organisations and international non-government organisations in a wide range of areas, including: health, education, environment, rural development, gender, governance, justice, and infrastructure development. In Bangladesh, Australia’s aid program primarily focuses on improving education, health, livelihoods and governance outcomes through bilateral and regional mechanisms.
The Bangladesh Education and Resource Network (bEARN) has been working with Australian Youth Ambassadors since 1996 across a wide range of areas, including: youth capacity building through peer education and training, participatory development and research, the Millennium Development Goals and other youth-related issues - interconnecting with the cross-cutting themes of Information Communication Technology and Gender Awareness and Equality. bEARN looks towards a positive future of continued collaboration with the AYAD program to continue to empower the youth of Bangladesh.
